Jack White hasn’t exactly been living life outside the public eye since announcing the end of the White Stripes last year, making records with everyone from Tom Jones to the
Insane Clown Posse and appearing on a (really pretty excellent) episode of “American Pickers,” to name just a few of his endeavors.
And on April 24, he’ll officially add “solo artist” to that résumé, with the release of Blunderbuss, the first album to bear his name — and his name only. And while we suppose the move was inevitable, according to White, he never really had any plans to go solo. In fact, Blunderbuss, the first album basically began life as a happy accident.
“I didn’t really even think of recording under my own name for a long time,” White told BBC Radio 1′s Zane Lowe on Monday. “A few months ago, we had a session booked and someone didn’t show up. So I said, ‘I guess we’ll do some of my songs’ … It kick-started the whole process.”
In further kick-startery, White has also premiered the first song from the album, “Love Interruption” on his brand-new official site. A smoky, sumptuous mix of winsome Wurlitzer, acoustic guitar (and maybe a clarinet?), the song sees White harmonizing with Nashville singer Ruby Amanfu and lamenting over the power and promise of love. Yes, it is pretty great.
Fans can download “Interruption” now, and it will be available on 7-inch (of course) on February 7. Blunderbuss will be released through White’s own Third Man Records, in conjunction with Columbia, and will reportedly feature contributions from the likes of Seasick Steve and Chris Thile, formerly of Nickel Creek.

Early ratings are in for Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 2 event, and the two-hour broadcast drew an estimated 4.37 million viewers, according to a report by TVBytheNumbers.com.
The final number, however, is likely to increase substantially by the time final ratings are released, as information continues to trickle in on the live broadcast.
By comparison, the initial UFC on FOX show last November featuring a heavyweight title bout with Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos drew an overnight rating of 4.64 million, but when final information was released, it ended up averaging a more robust 5.7 million viewers for the one-hour special.
Saturday night’s two-hour show, which was broadcast from the United Center in Chicago, featured a tripleheader that was void of any finishes. In the main event, Rashad Evans out-pointed Phil Davis, setting up a light-heavyweight title fight against Jon Jones. The co-main event saw Chael Sonnen earn a decision over Michael Bisping, setting up a rematch with middleweight champ Anderson Silva. And the night’s opener saw rising star Chris Weidman top Demian Maia on points.
Despite the lack of big finishes or action-packed rounds, ratings indicated that the event helped FOX carry the all important 18-49 year old demographic, as that segment of the population averaged a 2.2 rating to lead all broadcast networks.
Final ratings should be released on Monday.
The next UFC on FOX event will take place in the spring, with a May 5 date penciled in. To date, only one TV matchup has been confirmed, with lightweight contenders Nate Diaz and Jim Miller squaring off in a bout likely to serve as the co-main event.
A lightweight matchup between The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner Tony Ferguson and veteran Dennis Hallman has been booked for UFC on Fox 3 on May 5 in New Jersey.
UFC on Fox 3 does not yet have a main event, but features lightweight contenders Jim Miller vs. Nate Diaz as well as John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama at flyweight.

Weigh-ins for Saturday’s UFC on Fox 2 event took place this afternoon in Chicago, where all 20 fighters made weight, including Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis and Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping.
The MMA Wrap-Up returns after a brief hiatus to turn its critical eye upon the UFC’s first full FOX event. It was a night of slow grinds and lackluster decisions in Chicago, but where does that leave the UFC in its quest to win over a network TV audience? Give us a few precious minutes, and the Wrap-Up will give you something resembling an answer. Maybe.
